Mamelodi Sundowns’ seasoned playmaker Themba Zwane is on the road to recovery after suffering an Achilles tendon injury in October 2024. With the FIFA Club World Cup on the horizon in June, fans are eager to know how Zwaneβs rehabilitation is progressing.
Zwane spoke to iDiski Times, revealing that he is starting to run again in training without experiencing pain, although the Achilles still feels tense. “In terms of injury, Iβm coming along alright, and Iβm starting to run on the side now. At least I donβt feel pain,” said Zwane. “Itβs been difficult, especially when people say itβs done for me now. But with the support of my family and teammates who always check on me, I know Iβll come back strong. Iβll push myself to rejoin the team.”
Mamelodi Sundowns fans are worried about the potential departure of star midfielder Lucas Ribeiro. The Brazilian has been exceptional this season, with 10 goals and nine assists in just 26 games, but coach Miguel Cardoso admits there is a chance he may not stay long-term.
Cardoso discussed Ribeiro’s mindset, saying, “Iβve been encouraging Lucas to continue developing his ambition and mindset, pushing himself every day. We work a lot on the players’ mentality, and with commitment and hard work, Lucas has been exceptional.”
However, Cardoso also acknowledged the likelihood of Ribeiro leaving, stating, “Lucas can go. We need to make the most of his time here, but we hope the club can keep him for as long as possible because heβs an important player.”
