Nasreddine Nabi could be sitting on the Kaizer Chiefs bench for the last time this Saturday.
Amakhosi must secure a win against Polokwane City to clinch a spot in the Top 8. Currently ninth in the Betway Premiership with just one game left, their fate hangs in the balance.
Even though Nabi led Chiefs to a Nedbank Cup victory earlier this month, his future at the club isn’t guaranteed. Their league form has been shaky, with only eight wins from 27 matches.
Reports suggest that if Chiefs fail to finish in the Top 8, Nabi’s tenure might come to an end. However, club legend Lucas Radebe believes the coach deserves another season to prove himself.
“It’s unfortunate that coaches are judged solely on results. Nabi might have struggled in the league, but he delivered something Chiefs hadn’t won in a long time—a trophy,” Radebe told TimesLive. “I think he should be given another chance to show the direction he wants to take the team.”
Radebe also emphasized that for Nabi to bring consistency and success, the club must back him with quality signings next season.
“To build a team capable of competing for titles and qualifying for continental football, the club needs to invest in players. Chiefs is a huge brand in African football, and the coach needs full support when it comes to recruitment,” Radebe added.
“Winning the Nedbank Cup is a solid foundation to build a squad that can consistently challenge for trophies and league glory.”
Nabi still has two years left on his contract, but if Chiefs miss the Top 8 again, the club might reconsider his future.
