Mamelodi Sundowns, the reigning champions, are on track to defend their title as South Africaβs top team.
After 19 matches, Sundowns sit at 51 points, with 17 wins and 2 losses, leading second-place Orlando Pirates by 15 points, though they have played 4 more games.
Sundowns have scored the most goals in the leagueβ46 in their 19 matches, averaging 2.4 per game. Nearly half of these goals have come from two players: Lucas Ribeiro Costa and Iqraam Rayners. Costa has 11 goals, while Rayners has netted 9, leaving them ahead of the rest of the pack. Three players are currently tied at 6 goals.
Orlando Piratesβ Tshegofatso Mabasa was last seasonβs top scorer with 16 goals, but it seems unlikely anyone will surpass the all-time PSL record of 25 goals, held by Collins Mbesuma of Kaizer Chiefs in the 2004/05 season.
