Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane made his highly anticipated return to the field, playing his first match for the club since 2024 in the CAF Champions League semifinal against Al Ahly.

Zwane Welcomed Back with Open Arms by Sundowns Fans

With the game still tied at 0-0 at Loftus Versfeld last weekend, the 35-year-old made his comeback in the 70th minute, receiving a standing ovation from the fans. Sundowns’ senior goalkeeper Denis Onyango praised Zwane’s impact on the team.

“It was great to have Zwane back,” Onyango said in an interview with Kick Off. “You could feel the energy in the stadium, everyone was up. He’s the captain, and having him back on the pitch after such a long time is huge for us.”

Onyango emphasized Zwane’s importance, not just as a leader but as a player who can change the game: “He’s incredibly influential. The younger players look up to him, and the whole country loves him. When he’s on the field, you can see the difference. He’s great at controlling the ball and finding those crucial passes.”

A Boost for Sundowns as the Season Climaxes

Sundowns will be hoping that Zwane can regain his match fitness quickly to help propel the team in their final push of the season, with key matches ahead.
