Mamelodi Sundowns winger Thapelo Maseko could be heading to Europe as reports suggest a club in Cyprus has shown serious interest in securing his services.
According to SABC Sport, Sundowns have received a formal proposal for the 21-year-old speedster, though the specific club remains unnamed. It’s now up to the Brazilians to decide if they’re open to negotiating a potential deal ahead of the upcoming season.
Maseko, once tipped as one of South Africa’s brightest young talents, has struggled for consistent game time under coach Miguel Cardoso. He has made just six DStv Premiership appearances this season, far below expectations for a player of his potential.
Since joining Sundowns from SuperSport United two seasons ago, the left-footed attacker has featured in only 36 matches across all competitions, contributing two goals and one assist. His progress has clearly stalled, and a move abroad may be exactly what he needs to reignite his career.
Recently, Kaizer Chiefs were also linked with Maseko as they prepare for a major squad revamp. However, with European interest now on the table, the race for his signature could become more intense in the coming weeks.
The transfer window is fast approaching, and all eyes will be on whether Sundowns give the green light for talks to begin.
