Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has shared insights into how teams have been closely tracking Lucas Ribeiro’s movements on the field.

Teams Closing In on Lucas Ribeiro Cardoso highlighted how Lucas Ribeiro’s impressive performances, including his goals against rivals Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, have made him a target for opposition teams.

β€œAfter Lucas scored against Pirates and Chiefs, it became clear that every team is now focused on marking him tightly,” said Cardoso, as reported by Citizen. β€œYou don’t see him with much space on the field anymore. It’s important that the team understands that if two or three players are covering him, other areas of the pitch can be exploited. If he’s being pressured too much, Lucas needs to release the ball early and allow others to get involved, while positioning himself to find space.”

Mothobi Mvala’s Injury Comeback In other news, Sundowns’ veteran central defender Mothobi Mvala, who has been sidelined due to injury since 2024, is making a return just in time for the crucial CAF Champions League semifinals against Al Ahly on Friday.

β€œMothobi is coming back now,” Cardoso confirmed via FARPost. β€œWe need experienced players who bring stability, energy, and joy to the squad. They’re vital to our group, and I believe they will be key in pushing us through until the end of the season.”

The Big Match Sundowns will face Al Ahly in the second-leg semifinal of the CAF Champions League this Friday at 18:00, which will be held at Cairo International Stadium.
