The Springboks have been hit hard by a wave of injuries, and things just keep getting worse.
It all started earlier this year when it was confirmed that star loosehead prop Steven Kitshoff had been forced into early retirement due to a serious neck injuryβa massive loss for the Boks’ front row. Not long after, Elrigh Louw and Trevor Nyakane were also ruled out for the 2025 season. At 36, itβs likely that Nyakane wonβt wear the green and gold again.
Just as fans were trying to process that, Japan-based club Urayasu D-Rocks dropped another bombshellβSpringbok World Cup-winning No. 8 Jasper Wiese suffered a significant neck injury that could keep him out for a long time.
To make matters worse, thereβs serious concern around Frans Malherbe too. The powerful prop has picked up a back injury, and depending on what the scans reveal, he might be out for weeksβor even months.
And if that wasn’t enough, veteran forward Deon Fourie reportedly broke his tibia during a Stormers match on Saturday. Heβs now expected to be sidelined for the rest of the year.
