Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Siyanda Zwane has reflected on a decision he believes derailed his professional football journey β a loan switch to Ajax Cape Town.
Zwane, who launched his career at Golden Arrows before sealing a big move to Chloorkop, admitted during an interview on Metro FM that breaking into the Sundowns starting XI proved challenging.
βI spent about two and a half years there, struggling to get regular game time,β Zwane said. βThen Mushin Ertugral called and said he was heading to Ajax Cape Town. He invited me to join him on loan since I wasnβt playing much at Sundowns.β
At first, the move looked like a chance to reignite his career, but things didnβt go as expected.
βThe regret set in when I realised Sundowns werenβt going to bring me back, despite how well I thought I played at Ajax,β he explained.
Zwane also revealed a contractual shock that worsened the situation.
βNormally when players go on loan, their contracts are paused, but in my case, Sundowns told me my contract had continued running. So, by the time I returned, it had expired, and I had to look for a new club,β he added.
This unexpected twist left Zwane without a team and questioning the move that was meant to boost his career.
