Orlando Pirates have pulled off a major coup by securing Stellenbosch FC’s dynamic midfielder, Sihle Nduli, on a free transfer. The 29-year-old will join the Buccaneers at the end of the current season when his contract with Stellenbosch expires.
Nduli has been one of the standout performers at Stellenbosch FC over the past two seasons, especially after Sibongiseni Mthethwa’s move to Kaizer Chiefs. The midfielder has become the anchor of the team under coach Steve Barker, playing a pivotal role in the heart of the midfield.
CAF Confed Hero Joins Pirates
This season, Nduli continued to shine, making 41 appearances and scoring a memorable goal in Cairo. His match-winning strike against Zamalek in the CAF Confederation Cup sent Stellenbosch into the semifinals, further solidifying his reputation as a big-game player.
Having joined Stellenbosch from TS Galaxy in July 2022, Nduli quickly became a key figure, surpassing 100 appearances for the club and showcasing consistency and leadership in midfield.
Pirates Beat Chiefs to the Punch
Despite interest from both Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, Nduli has decided to join the Buccaneers. Sources confirm that he has already verbally committed to the move to Mayfair, leaving Chiefs frustrated after they came close to securing his signature earlier this year.
“Looks like he is going to Mayfair, and Chiefs were very close to signing him during the last transfer window,” said a well-placed insider. “Pirates are looking to refresh their midfield, especially with players like Makhaula nearing the end of their careers.”
Kaizer Chiefs Left Frustrated Again
Chiefs’ pursuit of Nduli had intensified during the January window, but missing out on him now will be a significant blow to their plans. Nduli’s arrival at Pirates signals their intent to rejuvenate their midfield ahead of next season’s challenges, ensuring they are equipped to compete on all fronts.
