Royal AM owner Shauwn Mkhize is facing a challenging period.

The successful entrepreneur is dealing with a hefty R40 million debt to SARS and owes former player Samir Nurkovic R11.1 million, in addition to an undisclosed amount to Ricardo Nascimento. This means Mkhize’s total debt stands at a staggering R51.1 million, plus the unpaid wages owed to Nascimento.

Mkhize’s net worth, as reported by Sassa Insider, is estimated at around R300 million, prompting questions about why she hasn’t settled these debts.

Royal AM is also struggling, having not played since December 29. The club has had to postpone eight matches, including ones against Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. On top of Mkhize’s significant debt to SARS, players have gone on strike due to unpaid salaries, with some requesting to have their contracts terminated in the summer transfer window so they can join other clubs.

In response to the situation, Mkhize issued a statement:

“Our management team, led by our CEO and General Manager, has been working closely with the curator to obtain approval to release funds for salary payments. It has always been Royal AM’s priority to care for our staff, and we remain committed to this principle, despite the current challenges.”

“We truly appreciate the patience and support of our players, staff, and their families during this difficult time. We also extend our thanks to our fans, sponsors, and other stakeholders for their continued trust and loyalty,” Mkhize said.

“Royal AM is committed to maintaining the integrity of the club and ensuring its long-term success. We are hopeful that this issue will be resolved soon and will keep everyone updated as things progress.”
