Dr. Danny Jordaan, president of the South African Football Association (SAFA), has been charged following an arrest warrant issued for his alleged involvement in a fraud case worth R1.3 million. He, along with two co-accusedβSAFA’s Chief Financial Officer Gronie Hlunyo and a businessmanβwill appear in court on Wednesday at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court. The charges stem from allegations that they misused SAFA funds for personal purposes between 2014 and 2018.
According to the Hawks, Jordaan is accused of using the associationβs resources for personal gain, including hiring a private security company for his own protection and contracting a Public Relations firm, all without proper authorization from the SAFA Board. This information was confirmed by Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale in a statement to The Sowetan.
Earlier this year, in March, the Hawks raided SAFA’s offices in connection with this case. Jordaan reportedly attempted to block his arrest and prosecution but will now face the charges in court, with the case scheduled to be heard on Thursday.
