Richards Bay head coach Brandon Truter voiced his frustration after his teamβs 2-1 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs, highlighting their failure to take full advantage of having an extra man on the field for much of the second half.
Despite taking the lead early in the match, Richards Bay struggled to maintain control once Kaizer Chiefs were reduced to 10 men after Reeve Froslerβs red card in the 48th minute. Truter admitted that his team didnβt make the most of their numerical advantage, which could have been a key moment to secure a win.
βWeβre really disappointed because we had a man advantage for most of the second half, but we didnβt capitalize on that,β Truter said post-match. βWe didnβt push hard enough or create enough chances to finish the game. We shouldβve been more aggressive and taken control of the game when we had the opportunity.β

Richards Bay initially went ahead with a well-executed goal, but Kaizer Chiefs responded with two goals from Wandile Duba and Ashley Du Preez, even though they were down to 10 men. Chiefsβ resilience and ability to push forward despite the disadvantage ultimately led to their victory, something Truter felt his team lacked.
βThe mentality wasnβt right,β Truter continued. βWhen we had the upper hand, we didnβt apply the necessary pressure to control the game. We shouldβve been more decisive in those crucial moments.β
The coach also pointed to defensive mistakes and missed opportunities as key factors in the loss. βWe were caught off guard by their goals, and didnβt deal well with the pressure when Chiefs increased their intensity. Itβs something we need to work on to avoid similar mistakes in the future.β
Looking ahead, Truter emphasized the need for his team to regroup and focus on both their offensive and defensive performances. βWeβll take lessons from this defeat and improve in those areas in training,β he concluded.
