Pitso Mosimane has addressed the swirling rumours linking him with the Orlando Pirates head coach position, shutting down the speculation.
Despite the growing buzz following the announcement that Jose Riveiro will leave at the end of the season, Mosimane made it clear he has not been contacted by the club.
In an exclusive interview with The Sowetan, Mosimane set the record straight: “I’ve seen it [the speculation], but nobody has spoken to me. So, we can’t be talking about nothing,” he stated, dismissing the media frenzy.
He also emphasized that his focus remains on his current projects, particularly the Pitso Mosimane Youth Football Project, which he values more than any other venture at the moment.
While Mosimane has been without a top-flight club since his departure from Esteghlal FC over a salary dispute, he is far from stepping away from football. The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach is deeply involved in youth development and community initiatives, tirelessly working on nurturing young talent.
“I’m home, yes, but it depends. It must be the right project, it must be the right time,” Mosimane said, when asked about returning to the PSL. “Let me build this legacy because once I stop coaching, people will forget about the trophies.”
He also explained how he’s still hands-on in the coaching world, often on the field with coaches, checking their methods. “I’m every day at the office, every day at the pitches, every day at the schools, every day at the government offices, so I can’t ask for more. I’m blessed, thank you,” he concluded.
Although Mosimane has ruled out an immediate move to Pirates, he hasn’t closed the door on professional coaching entirely, stating that any future move would need to align with the right project at the right time.
For now, Pitso continues to focus on leaving a legacy by shaping the next generation of football talent in South Africa.
