Orlando Pirates’ head coach, Jose Riveiro, will be stepping down at the end of the season, leaving the club searching for a new manager. But who could take over from the Spaniard?
ORLANDO PIRATES LEGENDS PUSH FOR PITSO MOSIMANE
Two club legends have shared their thoughts on who should replace Riveiro. Albert “Bashin” Mahlangu recently told Robert Marawa on 947 that Pitso Mosimane is the ideal candidate. A few days later, Mpho Makola, another former Pirates star, told FARPost that Mosimane, with his vast experience, is the perfect man to carry on Riveiroβs legacy.
Currently, Mosimane is a free agent after leaving Esteghlal FC in December 2024. A former Pirates player, Mosimane is one of the greatest coaches in South African football history, with five Premier Soccer League titles to his name. He is also Africa’s most successful coach in the CAF Champions League, having won it three times.
Additionally, Rulani Mokwena, a former Orlando Pirates coach, has been linked with a return. The Wydad Casablanca manager and his agent recently confirmed that Mokwena would be leaving the Moroccan club at the end of the season.
