Orlando Pirates are reportedly in a strong position to sign a Bafana Bafana international, with arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs also showing interest.

Both Chiefs and Pirates often compete for top-tier talent, sometimes targeting the same players.

Chiefs and Pirates in the Same Market

In the previous transfer window, several players were linked to both Chiefs and Pirates, including Oswin Appollis and Thabang Matuludi from Polokwane City. Other players such as Golden Arrows’ injured striker Lungelo Nguse and Stellenbosch FC left-back Fawaaz Basadien were also rumored to be targets. Meanwhile, Cape Town Spurs youngster Asanele Velebayi has remained quiet, but with his team struggling in the First Division, he could be a player to watch come the end of the season.

Kwayiba Next?

The next big name on the radar is Bafana Bafana midfielder Sinxolo Kwayiba. The Chippa United star has been a target for Pirates in the past two transfer windows, and rumors suggested Chiefs were also interested, with a possible swap deal involving Christian Saile.

However, Chiefs used Saile in a move for Tashreeq Morris from SuperSport United, while Pirates made no signings, meaning Kwayiba stayed with Chippa United. Recently, Chippa United coach Thabo September has stated that the club won’t stand in Kwayiba’s way should he decide to leave.

Pirates Ahead in Race for Kwayiba?

According to Soccer Laduma, Pirates are now leading the race for Kwayiba’s signature, and the midfielder is expected to make the move at the end of the season.

“Expect him (Kwayiba) to make the switch at the end of the season, and it could be a big deal, potentially involving a player swap and cash. Pirates are very interested in him,” a source revealed.
