Orlando Pirates are expected to dip into the transfer market this off-season, especially after a somewhat disappointing finish to their campaign. While the core of the squad β young and promising β is likely to remain intact, a few key positions still need strengthening if the Buccaneers hope to compete on all fronts next season.
Possible Starting XI for 2025
Chaine; Van Rooyen, Xoki, Mbokazi, Hotto; Mbatha, Nemtajela; Nkota, Maswanganyi, Mofokeng; Mabasa
The midfield could see some fresh legs, with 24-year-old Masindi Nemtajela from Marumo Gallants being eyed as a long-term replacement for the experienced Makhehlene Makhaula. Nemtajela has been impressive this season and fits Pirates’ profile of young, dynamic talent.
Another area of concern might be the left-back position. Deon Hotto has served the club well, but at 34, questions are being raised about whether Pirates should start grooming a younger successor.
Youth Movement in Full Swing
The rise of academy talent is one of the few bright spots for Pirates. Simphiwe Selepe, wearing jersey number 47, made his full Premiership debut recently after coming off the bench in the Soweto Derby earlier this month. Meanwhile, 17-year-old DDC captain Cemran Dansin was included in the squad for their 3-0 win over Golden Arrows β a match that saw goals from Tshegofatso Mabasa, Bandile Shandu, and Kabelo Dlamini.
The blend of youth and experience is shaping up well, but a few smart additions in the transfer window could make all the difference in the Buccaneers’ next campaign.
