Orlando Pirates head coach, Jose Riveiro, continues to remain tight-lipped about the status of key players, leaving fans wondering: Where is Monnapule Saleng?
No Clear Update on Saleng’s Return
Reports from SNL24 indicate that Saleng, along with teammates Olisa Ndah and Goodman Mosele, are not expected to return to action soon. When questioned about their situations, Riveiro declined to provide details, saying, “I don’t speak about the health of my players; it’s something private. The club will disclose information when the time is right. It’s not my responsibility or ethical for me to share details about injuries or recovery timelines.”
Riveiro added, “I know people are eager to know how close Olisa (Ndah) and Goodman (Mosele) are to returning, or what’s happening with Saleng, but that information won’t be shared.”
Upcoming Nedbank Cup and Premiership Fixtures
Pirates are set to face Baroka in the Nedbank Cup Round of 16 on Saturday, February 15, at 15:00. Following that, they will return to Premiership action with an away game against Golden Arrows on Wednesday, February 19, at 19:30. Unfortunately, Thabiso Sesane will not be part of the squad, as he is out for the rest of the season due to a tendon rupture.

A New Defensive Hope: Mbekezeli Mbokazi
In other news, 19-year-old central defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi has been training with the senior team and catching the eye of Riveiro and the technical staff. The left-footed defender has impressed with his strong work ethic, composure on the ball, and crisp distribution, both short and long. While it’s early days, the club has high hopes for the youngster, who is also seen as a natural leader on the field.
The uncertainty surrounding key players like Saleng and the promising rise of Mbokazi continue to keep Orlando Pirates fans on edge as the team prepares for its upcoming challenges.
