Orlando Pirates will be without several key players for their upcoming Betway Premiership match against Chippa United.

Maswanganyi and Chaine unavailable for Chippa clash
Patrick Maswanganyi will be sidelined as he continues recovering from a grade one muscle strain. Additionally, goalkeeper Sipho Chaine is suspended due to an accumulation of yellow cards. Pirates will face the Chilli Boys on Wednesday, March 5, at 19:30. As of now, they trail league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by 18 points, with four games in hand.

β€œTito sustained a grade one strain during our match against Cape Town City. We’ll continue to monitor his recovery and provide the technical team with daily updates,” a club report stated.

Injury updates on other players

  • Miguel Timm (Ankle): Currently undergoing rehabilitation, with full training expected in 7-14 days.
  • Thabiso Monyane (Hamstring): In field-based rehab, focusing on agility and endurance, with high-speed running starting next week.
  • Zakhele Lepasa (Ankle): In training with the strength and conditioning team.
  • Olisa Ndah (Shin): Has completed rehab and returned to full training, working on match fitness.
  • Thabiso Lebitso (Ankle): Undergoing post-surgery treatment and physiotherapy.
  • Thabiso Sesane (Achilles): Like Lebitso, Sesane is in recovery and receiving physiotherapy after surgery.

Saleng’s Chiefs connection
In 2022, Orlando Pirates’ star Monnapule Saleng shared his story of nearly joining Kaizer Chiefs. As a boy, he was an Amakhosi fan and revealed a scout from Chiefs had been following him during his time at Free State Stars, but after delays, he eventually ended up at Pirates.
