Kaizer Chiefs’ head coach, Nasreddine Nabi, has made it clear that his commitment lies with the Soweto giants, turning down an offer to manage the Tunisian national team. Despite a rocky start to his time with Chiefs, Nabi is dedicated to restoring the club’s success and ending their long wait for a trophy.
Nabi, who took over at Kaizer Chiefs at the beginning of the season, has been focused on bringing the club back to its former glory. The Tunisian coach left AS FAR Rabat after just one season to take on this new challenge in South Africa, following a successful stint with Young Africans in Tanzania.
With Tunisia gearing up for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, the national team approached Nabi with the opportunity to coach his homeland. However, he decided to stay with Chiefs, reaffirming his loyalty to the club.
“I’d like to say thank you to Dr. Kaizer Motaung, to Kaizer Jr, Bobby Motaung, and the entire management,” Nabi said after Chiefs’ 1-0 win over Stellenbosch FC in Cape Town. “I was offered the chance to coach my country, but after discussing it with the Chiefs management, we decided that I’m going to pass up this big opportunity. Nabi’s dedication was further evident after Chiefs secured a vital 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch, marking their second win over the team this season. Their first victory came earlier in the campaign with a 2-1 win.
“I’m very happy with the performance and the three points,” Nabi said. “Beating a team like Stellenbosch twice in such a short time is not easy. They are a strong team with a solid coaching staff, and winning in Cape Town is always tough. We’re really pleased with the result.”
