Monnapule Saleng’s ongoing standoff with Orlando Pirates has been making waves recently, with reports revealing that the star winger is unhappy with his situation at the club.

Saleng, who has been one of the most consistent players for the Buccaneers in recent years, is said to be struggling emotionally, with his parents claiming that he is facing depression due to his low salary at the club.

Saleng’s Family Speaks Out

Thabo Tsoeu, Saleng’s father, shared his concerns about his son’s well-being in a recent interview. He expressed pain over the situation, saying, “He is the one who cares for us at home, and seeing him in this state breaks my heart. I just wish he would open up and tell me what’s truly bothering him before it’s too late.” Tsoeu emphasized that the issue stems from Saleng’s contract, which he feels is not reflective of the player’s value. He continued, “We want him to stay with Orlando Pirates because it’s one of the top clubs in the country. But it’s unfair to see him contributing so much on the field and earning far less than others. For instance, he’s making R70,000, while someone else is making R500,000.”

Saleng’s talent has been recognized, with his recent call-up to Bafana Bafana a testament to his importance. But his parents are calling for the club to reconsider his salary, given his significant contributions.

Pirates Eyeing More Depth for a Busy Season

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates continue their campaign across multiple competitions. After lifting the MTN8 title, the club remains in contention for an incredible quadruple. They are pushing hard to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns in the Betway Premiership, while also competing in the Nedbank Cup and CAF Champions League.

Promotions on the Horizon

In other Pirates news, the club is set to promote two players from the Diski Challenge to the first team. With a demanding second half of the season ahead, Jose Riveiro is keen to add depth to his squad. According to Soccer Laduma, winger Neo Mokoena and defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi have impressed during training and are expected to be gradually introduced to the senior team.
