Orlando Pirates rising star, Mohau Nkota, has secured a groundbreaking five-year endorsement deal with Nike. This deal is historic because Nkota is set to become the first South African male footballer to wear the new Phantom Luna Elite boot.
P Management Sports, Nkota’s agency, shared the exciting news on their social media platforms. While Thembi Kgatlana and Linda Motlhalo, both from Banyana Banyana, are the only other South African athletes using the boot, Nkota’s deal marks a significant milestone in his career.
The 20-year-old forward has been making waves since the beginning of the season. To date, he has scored four goals in 18 appearances across all competitions for Pirates. In October 2024, Nkota became the youngest player to score a first-half brace in the league for Pirates, breaking a record held by Excellent Walaza. A month later, he made history again by becoming the youngest player in PSL history to score a brace on his CAF competition debut during a match against CR Belouizdad of Algeria. Pirates won that game 2-1, with Khanyisa Mayo of CR Belouizdad scoring for the home team.
This new Nike deal signals an exciting chapter in Nkota’s rapidly rising career.
