Kaizer Chiefs defender Miguel Inacio has shared his thoughts on his debut Soweto Derby, following a tough 1-0 loss to Orlando Pirates. The 29-year-old played the full 90 minutes in the match, with a late penalty from Patrick Maswanganyi securing the win for the Buccaneers at FNB Stadium this past Saturday.
βFor me, it was an amazing experience to finally feel the intensity of Africa’s biggest derby,” Inacio said. “It was unfortunate that we couldnβt secure the victory, but as my first derby, I was excited and gave my all to help the team.β
Inacio formed a solid partnership with Rushwin Dortley in defense, though Pirates dominated possession throughout the game. The Buccaneers didnβt create many scoring chances in the first half, but their late penalty proved decisive.
βFrom the start of the game, I was very happy to be part of this derby, but by the end, I was disappointed with the result,β Inacio reflected. βI also received some great advice from my friend Hugo [Marques], who played in South Africa, on how to stay calm during games like this.β
The Angolan international emphasized that the Soweto Derby was far from a regular match.
βThis is not just any game. It was my first time experiencing it with so many fans in the stands, and I received so much love and support from my family and friends, which was incredible. It was an unforgettable day for me.β
