Marc Cucurella played a key role in Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Brentford on Sunday, scoring his first Premier League goal for the club and contributing to the victory. However, his performance ended on a sour note as he was sent off after the final whistle, picking up a second yellow card that will see him miss Chelsea’s next match.
Cucurella scored a well-timed header from a Noni Madueke cross just before halftime to give Chelsea the lead. Despite wasting a few chances to extend their advantage, Chelsea eventually doubled their lead in the 80th minute thanks to Nicolas Jackson. Brentford threatened a late comeback when Bryan Mbeumo scored in the 90th minute, but Chelsea held firm to secure their fifth consecutive Premier League win.

However, Cucurellaβs night took a turn in stoppage time. He received his first yellow card for a late challenge in the fifth minute of injury time. Then, after the final whistle, he was booked again for a confrontation with Kevin Schade, which resulted in a red card. The Premier League later clarified on social media that Cucurella was shown the second yellow for “adopting an aggressive attitude,” a booking which was also given to Schade.
As a result, Cucurella will be suspended for Chelsea’s next Premier League match against Everton.
