Mamelodi Sundowns co-head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has expressed that he is not particularly interested in coaching the Carling Black Label All Stars team, despite being one of the front-runners for the position. Mngqithi, who has guided Sundowns to great success in domestic and continental competitions, made his thoughts clear during an interview on Metro FM, where he was asked about the prospect of managing the All Stars team in the upcoming Carling Black Label match against Magesi FC.

β€œI’ll be lying if I say that’s one of my biggest interests,” Mngqithi said, acknowledging the speculation surrounding his potential involvement in the exhibition match. β€œI think I’ve got too much on my plate at the moment with the team that we have and the type of matches we’re expected to play.”

Mngqithi, who has helped shape Sundowns into one of Africa’s most dominant football teams, emphasized that his primary focus remains on the ongoing tasks with Sundowns. With critical fixtures ahead in both the CAF Champions League and the domestic league, the coach made it clear that his full attention is on securing as many points as possible for his side during the festive season.

The speculation surrounding Mngqithi’s potential role in the Carling Black Label All Stars fixture comes at a time when he, alongside co-coach Rhulani Mokwena, is preparing for crucial upcoming matches. However, despite the public interest, Mngqithi stated that while he is willing to take part if needed, his commitment to Sundowns’ immediate goals takes priority.

β€œIf that’s what everybody expects, I’ll do it,” he said, acknowledging that he would be willing to step into the role if called upon. β€œBut the truth of the matter is, one would have loved to focus all his attention on trying to make sure that this festive season gives us as many points as possible, both in the CAF Champions League and in the league.”

The comments underscore Mngqithi’s dedication to Sundowns and his desire to ensure that the club maintains its high standards and continues to compete at the highest level in both domestic and international football. As Sundowns look to build on their success, Mngqithi’s leadership remains a key factor in their ongoing pursuit of glory.
