Despite the uncertainty following Jose Riveiro’s sudden exit, Orlando Pirates interim head coach Mandla Ncikazi remains dedicated to the club, pledging to continue giving his all until the club decides otherwise.

After stepping up as interim coach when Riveiro left before the end of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season, Ncikazi, who previously worked as Riveiro’s assistant, has kept a positive outlook on Pirates’ progress this year. Since joining the club in 2021 after his time with Golden Arrows, the 56-year-old signed a contract extension through to the end of 2025/26.

With Pirates actively searching for a new permanent head coach, there’s speculation about whether Ncikazi will stay on the technical team. However, he remains humble and focused on his role, saying, “I’m wired differently. Whether I’m at Pirates or not, the club is still great. I’m proud of what I’ve contributed and the respect I’ve earned here. As long as that continues, I’ll serve this badge with everything I’ve got.”

Reflecting on the season, Ncikazi highlighted the team’s improvements—especially in youth development and closing the gap with league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. “I see myself as a small piece in a larger mission at Pirates. There’s been real progress this season: breaking records, growing as a team, and young players stepping up.”

While Pirates didn’t hit all their goals this season, Ncikazi emphasized that setbacks are part of the game and that learning from them is what matters going forward. With a new head coach appointment looming, his future may depend on the incoming leadership, but his loyalty and humility have earned him respect across the club.
