The goals from Lucas Ribeiro Costa, Iqraam Rayners, and Arthur Sales sealed the win for Bafana Ba Style, who now stand at the brink of history.
With only three matches remaining for their closest rivals, Orlando Pirates, Sundowns could claim the title without even having to play another match. The gap between the two sides has stretched to 15 points, with Pirates holding three games in hand.
Even if Pirates win their remaining five matches, they can only match Sundowns’ current points tally. To prevent Sundowns from clinching the title, Pirates would need to significantly improve their goal difference, alongside Sundowns losing their final two fixtures.
Orlando Pirates are next in action on Tuesday, May 13, against Golden Arrows, currently sitting 14th in the league. If Pirates fail to win, Sundowns will officially be crowned champions of South Africa.
