Bafana Bafana’s powerful striker, Evidence Makgopa, is determined to repay the trust placed in him by head coach Hugo Broos as he makes his return to the national team setup. After overcoming a period of injury, Makgopa has rediscovered his goalscoring form, netting six goals in 16 appearances this season. His performances have played a key role in helping Orlando Pirates maintain their lead at the top of the Betway Premiership, securing seven wins out of seven matches.
Ahead of South Africa’s crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Uganda on Friday, the 24-year-old forward expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to return to the national team. He acknowledged the mental and physical challenges that come with recovering from injury but remained resolute in his goal to perform for both his club and country. Makgopa emphasized that, although itβs tough to be on the bench at Orlando Pirates, he is focused on working hard whenever he gets the chance to prove himself.
“I’m just grateful for the chance to be back in the team. The only thing I can do now is push when given the opportunity,” Makgopa shared with the media. “You don’t want to disappoint a coach who has faith in you. I know itβs going to be tough, but Iβll do whatever it takes to prove myself and make a positive impact.”
