In a surprising development, former Kaizer Chiefs player Knowledge Musona has reversed his international retirement to rejoin the Zimbabwe national team. The 34-year-old had stepped away from international football in May 2022, prioritizing his club career and wanting to make room for younger players, according to Soccer 24 Zimbabwe.

However, Warriors head coach Michael Nees managed to convince Musona to make a comeback. The star forward has now committed to playing in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Benin and Nigeria.

Musona had a standout 12-year international career, earning 54 caps and scoring 24 goals, solidifying his status as one of Zimbabwe’s finest football talents. He currently plays for Saudi Pro League team Al Okhdood, where he continues to demonstrate his abilities.

Musona is not the only veteran making a return. Khama Billiat and Washington Arubi, both previously retired or dropped from the squad, have also rejoined the team. Their returns add much-needed experience to the Warriors as they gear up for their World Cup qualifying campaign.

Musona will join a squad featuring experienced players like Washington Arubi (Marumo Gallants), Marley Tavaziva (Brentford), and Martin Mapisa (MWOS FC) as goalkeepers. In defense, there are players such as Jordan Zemura (Udinese), Divine Lunga (Sundowns), and Gerald Takwara (Al Minaa SC). The midfield includes Marshall Munetsi (Stade de Reims), Andy Rinomhota (Cardiff City), Marvelous Nakamba (Luton Town), Tawanda Chirewa (Huddersfield Town), and Musona himself. Upfront, the attack is led by Prince Dube (Young Africans), Tawanda Maswanhise (Motherwell), Terrence Dzvukamanja (Supersport United), Tymon Machope (Scotland), and Walter Musona (Scotland).
