Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly preparing to make bold moves in the upcoming transfer window, as the club looks to give head coach Nasreddine Nabi the support he needs to turn things around after a challenging first season in charge.
Nabi’s Rebuild Plan: 10 Signings, Few Hits
Since arriving at Naturena, Nabi has brought in 10 new players over two transfer windows. However, very few have made a major impact, and several of those signings are already being linked with exits. Bongani Sam and Fiacre Ntwari, two of the earliest recruits, could be the first to depart, while defender Bradley Cross is also yet to fully convince the technical team.
Part of the problem appears to be that many of these signings weren’t Nabi’s preferred choices. Reports suggest the coach had hoped to bring in players he worked with successfully at Tanzanian giants Yanga SC—including striker Fiston Mayele (now at Pyramids FC), midfielder Stephane Aziz Ki, and Tanzanian international Feisal Salum.
Chiefs’ Chase for Feisal Salum Hits a Twist
Chiefs made several efforts to land Salum, including a failed bid in January which was turned down by Azam FC. More recently, it was believed the player had given his approval to join Amakhosi, fueling hopes that a deal was imminent.
However, according to FARPost, that move may now be in jeopardy. Salum, who has just one year left on his Azam contract, is reportedly considering a return to his former club Yanga SC—where he initially rose to prominence under Nabi.
Yanga, who may lose Aziz Ki at the end of the season, are said to be eager to bring Salum back into their ranks. The midfielder, born in Zanzibar, may find the familiar environment of Yanga an attractive option despite Chiefs’ ongoing interest.
