Kaizer Chiefs bounced back from their recent defeat to Lamontville Golden Arrows with a crucial late win against Sekhukhune United in the Betway Premiership. The Soweto giants claimed all three points at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, thanks to a second-half goal from substitute Mfundo Vilakazi. This victory pushed Amakhosi up to fifth place in the Premier Soccer League standings, with 21 points from 14 games.

The match began with both teams creating early chances. Chiefs came close in the third minute, but Bruce Bvuma was quick off his line to make a save. Wandile Duba also had a chance in the fourth minute, but his shot went over the bar. The game remained fast-paced, with Sekhukhune United’s goalkeeper, Sangare, pulling off a brilliant save to keep the score level in the 7th minute. Duba had another opportunity in the 21st minute, but once again, Sangare denied him. As the first half wore on, Sekhukhune’s keeper continued to be the hero, stopping a close-range effort from Potsane to ensure a goalless draw at halftime.

The second half saw fewer chances, and although Chiefs put pressure on Sekhukhune, they struggled to break through. The game took a turn in the 83rd minute when Sekhukhune’s Vuyo Letlapa was sent off, reducing them to 10 men. With just minutes remaining, Kaizer Chiefs capitalized on their numerical advantage. In the 87th minute, Vilakazi found the net to give Chiefs the lead. They held onto the lead until the final whistle, securing a 1-0 victory.

This win lifted Kaizer Chiefs to fifth in the standings and kept them in the hunt for a strong finish this season. Their next fixture in the Betway Premiership will be a highly anticipated derby against Orlando Pirates next month. In transfer news, Chiefs are reportedly still keen on signing Tanzanian international midfielder, who was recently the subject of a rejected R6 million offer. The Tanzanian side is holding out for a R40 million price tag, but Chiefs’ coach Nasreddine Nabi remains hopeful of bringing him in this January.
