Kaizer Chiefs have successfully secured the services of a key player for at least another season, as the club looks ahead to the future.

While much of the focus will be on new signings, it’s equally crucial for Chiefs to retain their current stars. Reports confirm that Edson Castillo has reached an agreement with the club to extend his contract.

Castillo Signs New Deal at Kaizer Chiefs
“I can confirm that Edson will stay for another season, and his contract has been renewed with the option to extend for another year,” said Castillo’s agent, Mauricio Andrade, in an interview with iDiski Times.

“And he’s really happy with the extension, as it was his goal to stay with the club for the years to come. He’s committed to helping the team win trophies,” he added.

Though Castillo is currently sidelined due to injury, head coach Nasreddine Nabi has previously expressed his support for the Venezuelan midfielder, stating, “He’s a good man, a gentleman, and I respect him a lot.” Nabi is eager to give Castillo a full opportunity to shine when he returns to full fitness.

Fans Urge Chiefs to Make Emergency Signing Ahead of Sundowns Clash
In other news, Chiefs fans are growing increasingly anxious about their next match against Mamelodi Sundowns, set to take place on March 1, 2025, at Loftus Versfeld. Sundowns have been in exceptional form, extending their lead at the top of the Betway Premiership standings to nine points, including a dominant 4-1 win over Orlando Pirates.

As a result, many Chiefs supporters are calling for the club to make an urgent move to bolster their midfield with Bafana Bafana legend Thulani Serero, who is currently a free agent. Serero is reportedly set to join Cape Town City FC, but Chiefs fans are hoping the club will make a move to secure his services for the crucial Sundowns game.

One fan expressed on X (formerly Twitter): “Please sign Serero before the Sundowns game to partner Cele. We can’t afford to play them with what we have now. Age is just a number, Pirates signed Makhaula.”

Many other supporters echoed this sentiment, urging Chiefs to swoop in and bring Serero on board to strengthen their squad.
