Kaizer Chiefs reportedly passed up the opportunity to sign Pyramids striker Fiston Mayele back in 2023, despite the Congolese forward being offered for less than R10 million. The striker eventually joined Egyptian side Pyramids, where he has since netted 54 goals in just two seasons.

Mayele’s fellow Congolese, Christian Bukasa, revealed in an interview with Kickoff that the striker was eager to join Chiefs, but the club decided against the move due to his asking price.

β€œWe spoke to Bobby (Motaung), but they turned down the opportunity. Chiefs would have paid no more than R10 million for him,” Bukasa explained. β€œThis happened before Nabi joined Chiefs, but I truly believe Mayele would have been a game-changer for them due to his proven goal-scoring ability.”

Bukasa also mentioned that, since the initial talks, there have been no further discussions with Chiefs, and Mayele is now earning almost double the salary he had requested from the club. With Chiefs’ pursuit of a top striker still elusive, it seems the door for Mayele at Naturena has closed, with Saudi Arabia now being seen as the likely next destination for the forward.
