Kaizer Chiefs have officially promoted 19-year-old left-back Kabelo Nkgwesa from their development team.

Nkgwesa, a versatile player, has impressed with his performances in the Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) squad. With Chiefs facing ongoing struggles in the left-back position, as acknowledged by coach Nasreddine Nabi, Nkgwesa’s promotion brings much-needed fresh talent.

Currently, the Glamour Boys have several players vying for the left-back spot, including Bradley Cross, Happy Mashiane, Edmilson Dove, and Bongani Sam. While Cross has been the starting choice this season, his inconsistency has been an issue. The team has improved in this area with the return of Dove, who had been sidelined due to injury.

For Nkgwesa, this promotion means he will need to work hard to earn a spot in the first team. Although he’s signed a senior contract, he is expected to continue playing in the DDC to further develop and adjust to senior-level football. This approach mirrors the paths taken by Mduduzi Shabalala, Wandile Duba, and Mfundo Vilakazi.

Goalkeeper Bontle Molefe is another young player promoted to the senior squad, awaiting his debut. Nkgwesa’s promotion was officially confirmed by his agency, MSC Sports Talent.
