Kaizer Chiefs endured a humiliating first-half performance as two former players from SuperSport United played pivotal roles in their downfall.
Samir Nurkovic, who recently made the switch to SuperSport United, wasted no time in making an impact, scoring in the third minute against his old team. Out of respect for Chiefs, Nurkovic chose not to celebrate the goal, acknowledging the club that gave him his PSL debut. This marked his second league goal since joining the Tshwane side under coach Gavin Hunt.
Chiefs responded with an equalizer in the 30th minute, as Glody Lilepo found the net, recording his third goal of the season for the club. However, just two minutes later, the home side were on the backfoot again when Christian Saile, another former Chiefs player, struck for SuperSport. Like Nurkovic, this was Saileβs second goal for Matsatsantsa since joining on loan from Chiefs in January.
Kaizer Chiefs entered the match in sixth place on the log with 25 points from 17 league games, hoping to move up to fourth with a win. SuperSport United, sitting in 12th place with only 17 points from 17 games, were aiming to climb to 11th with a victory over the Soweto giants.
At halftime, Chiefs found themselves trailing 1-2, with the second half yet to unfold.
