After suffering a 2-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates last weekend, Kaizer Chiefs are looking to make changes to their lineup ahead of the upcoming Nedbank Cup final against their Soweto rivals on Saturday.
The two giants of South African football will face off again at Moses Mabhida Stadium this Saturday afternoon, marking the second consecutive weekend of intense competition. In the previous league encounter, Chiefs sacrificed some key players, while Pirates went all in for the victory.
Having last won a trophy in 2015, Chiefs are desperate for silverware, and the Nedbank Cup presents their final opportunity to salvage what has been a disappointing season under coach Nasreddine Nabi.
Possible Kaizer Chiefs lineup for the Nedbank Cup final:
Goalkeeper: Bruce Bvuma
Despite his mistake leading to Pirates’ winning goal last weekend, Bvuma remains Chiefs’ first-choice keeper. The 30-year-old must step up with a match-winning performance in the final if Chiefs are to have any hope of lifting the trophy.
Defenders: Dillan Solomons, Zitha Kwinika, Inacio Miguel, and Edmilson Dove
With Miguel being rested last weekend to avoid suspension, he is likely to partner Kwinika in central defense for the final. Dove will move to the left-back position, solidifying the backline in what will be a crucial defensive setup.
Midfielders: Edson Castillo, Thabo Cele, and Sibongiseni Mthethwa
Yusuf Maart has struggled against Pirates and may find himself on the bench, with Cele expected to step in. The combination of Cele, Castillo, and Mthethwa will provide a more solid midfield, allowing for better protection of the defense while challenging Pirates in possession.
Forwards: Gaston Sirino, Makabi Lilepo, and Wandile Duba
Lilepo has been in great form recently and could be a key player for Chiefs in the final. His ability to score and create opportunities will be vital. Sirino’s experience and passing range will also be essential in unlocking the Pirates defense, while Lilepo and Duba’s pace could create the necessary chances to break through.
Chiefs are hoping these changes will be enough to secure their first piece of silverware in nearly a decade.
