Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly intensifying their pursuit of Azam midfielder Feisal Salum.

The Tanzanian club has set a hefty price tag of R180 million for the 27-year-old, but ironically, Salum recently turned down a contract extension, which could make him a free agent in the offseason and potentially render Azam’s asking price irrelevant.

“Informal talks between Chiefs and Azam have already started,” a source confirmed. “But, as you know, until an official offer is made, there will be denials. However, talks have indeed begun.”

The source added, “Football is business. Azam may say they’re not willing to sell now, but they know they’ll have to sell if the player doesn’t renew his contract. They won’t want to lose him for nothing.”

A potential Salum-Nabi reunion?

Salum, who has spent several years in the Tanzanian Premier League, winning two titles under coach Nasreddine Nabi at Young Africans, is reportedly seeking new challenges. This sets up a possible reunion with Nabi at Kaizer Chiefs, which could benefit both parties. Salum would secure his future at one of Africa’s top clubs, while Nabi would gain the experienced midfielder he’s been after. Meanwhile, George Matlou’s future at Chiefs seems uncertain.

“Feisal Salum has decided not to extend his contract,” reported Africafoot.com. “He enjoys his time at Azam, but he’s eager to explore new opportunities once the season ends.”

While it’s still early to confirm a move to Kaizer Chiefs, the possibility remains a serious one.
