Kaizer Chiefs have been dealt a setback ahead of their highly anticipated match against Mamelodi Sundowns on March 1.

The two sides will meet in the second round of the Betway Premiership at Lucas Moripe Stadium, with the match set to kick off at 15:30.

Kaizer Chiefs Lose Sirino for Sundowns Clash

Unfortunately for Amakhosi, they will head into the encounter without their key attacker, Gaston Sirino, who will be serving a two-match suspension. The Uruguayan, who joined Chiefs from Sundowns at the beginning of the season, was shown a red card during Chiefs’ 4-1 defeat to SuperSport United on Tuesday.

Sirino received a yellow card for a deliberate handball and was later booked again, leading to his ejection from the match.

With Chiefs not playing this weekend due to the Royal AM game being canceled, Sirino will have to wait a little longer before making his return to the field.

As the club aims to secure a spot in continental competition this season, they will need all the points they can get. However, they will face a tough challenge against Sundowns, who remain dominant in the league despite recent coaching changes.

Currently, Chiefs sit sixth in the standings with 25 points from 18 matches, and the remaining 12 league games will be crucial for both the team and coach Nasreddine Nabi, who has been under scrutiny due to questionable team selections and substitutions in recent losses and draws.
