Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has shared that he turned down an offer to coach the Tunisian national team in order to remain with Amakhosi.

The 59-year-old, who took charge of Chiefs in July last year, was brought in after a disappointing 10th-place finish in the Betway Premiership. In the seven months under Nabi’s leadership, Chiefs have moved up to fourth place in the league.

After a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch, Nabi revealed that his home country had approached him with a coaching opportunity. However, after discussions with Chiefs management, he chose to decline the offer to continue his work with the club.

β€œI’d like to say thank you to Dr. Kaizer Motaung, Kaizer Jr., Bobby Motaung, and the entire management,” Nabi said, as reported by FARPost. β€œI was offered the chance to coach my country, but after discussions with the Chiefs management, we decided that I would stay here. It’s a huge honor to be at Kaizer Chiefs, and I’m grateful for the opportunity.”

Nabi’s decision to stay was made after leading his team to a 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch, pushing them into fourth place in the standings. β€œI’m very happy with the performance and the three points today,” Nabi said after the match. “Beating a team like Stellenbosch twice in just a few weeks isn’t easy, and winning in Cape Town is always challenging. We’re very pleased with how we performed.”

Nabi will be preparing for his 19th match in charge of Kaizer Chiefs when they face Chippa United in the Nedbank Cup Round of 16.
