Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has reaffirmed his commitment to the club despite their 1-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.
The 59-year-old Tunisian coach, who took over at Chiefs in July from AS FAR, has faced a mixed start to his tenure but insists he’s staying put.
βIβm not here for the money. I sometimes get offers that are three times what Iβm earning here, but I love this club and the project it represents. Itβs tough when youβre criticized by your colleagues,β Nabi said after the Sundowns game.
Despite the third loss to Sundowns under his leadership, Nabi remained positive about his playersβ efforts.
βWe leave this game with some regrets,β he acknowledged. βWe feel we created enough opportunities and had more control in the second half. But in football, you have to score. Based on our performance, we deserved a draw,β he added.
With 11 matches remaining in the season, Nabi is confident that Kaizer Chiefs will finish strong.
βWe know weβve lost points today, but we need to regroup and push for the next game,β he said. βWhatβs important is the progress of the players over the season. Our position on the log doesnβt reflect our performance, but itβs a temporary situation, and Iβm confident weβll finish higher.β
It was reported last month that Nabi had turned down an offer to coach the Tunisian national team to remain with Kaizer Chiefs.
