Kaizer Chiefs are gearing up to strengthen their attacking options with the imminent signings of two new forwards as they look ahead to the 2025 season and beyond. The club is set to finalize deals for striker Tashreeq Morris from SuperSport United and winger Glody Lilepo from French side Valenciennes, reinforcing their frontline with much-needed firepower.

Amakhosi have been linked with several names over the course of the transfer window, including Fiston Mayele, Clement Mzize, Lungelo Nguse, and Ruben del Campo. It was also reported that Chiefs were considering parting ways with DR Congo attacker Christian Saile to free up a foreign player spot. In the end, Saile was involved in a swap deal with SuperSport United, which allowed the club to bring in Morris.

Last week, it was revealed that Chiefs weren’t done reinforcing their attack, and their pursuit of another DR Congo international, Glody Lilepo, was gaining momentum. On Tuesday evening, it was confirmed that the club had reached an agreement with Valenciennes for the winger. Reports suggest that Lilepo himself already has a pre-agreement in place with Kaizer Chiefs, signaling that the deal is almost sealed.

However, the situation could have unfolded differently under other circumstances. Kaizer Chiefs reportedly had an interest in Mamelodi Sundowns’ star striker Peter Shalulile, but the club ultimately decided against pursuing him due to his astronomical price tag.

According to a source close to the club, Chiefs acknowledged that even if Shalulile were a free agent, his total cost, including the signing fee and salary, would still be too high for the club’s limited budget. “No, Chiefs could not move for Peter (Shalulile). Not even if he was a free agent. When a player like Shalulile comes as a free agent, he is even more expensive because of the signing-on fee and the large salary that comes with him,” the source explained.

The source went on to reveal that Shalulile’s market value was reportedly around R75 million, making him unaffordable for most South African clubs. “Which team in South Africa can go for such a player? Tell me,” the insider added, highlighting the financial gap that made a move for Shalulile practically impossible for Chiefs.

In the end, Chiefs opted for more affordable alternatives in Morris and Lilepo, bolstering their squad for the upcoming season. While the Shalulile dream may have been out of reach, the club’s new signings still promise to add depth and quality to their attacking ranks as they continue their push for trophies in 2025.
