Former Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro is reportedly on his way to Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly, and speculation is growing that he might not be going alone.
Could Al Ahly Be Eyeing a Pirates Double Deal?
As news of Riveiro’s imminent unveiling at Al Ahly gains momentum, talk has resurfaced around Monnapule Saleng possibly reuniting with his former coach in Cairo.
While Riveiro didn’t confirm any moves, he didn’t rule them out either. Speaking to 947’s Marawa Sports Worldwide, the Spaniard acknowledged that while he’s no longer involved in Pirates’ affairs, the club has plenty of talent worth watching.
“Orlando Pirates is packed with quality players and future stars,” Riveiro said. “In today’s football, coaches do have some influence over transfers, but at the end of the day, those decisions are made by club management — whether it’s Pirates or any club looking to recruit from here.”
His comments have only fueled the idea that Saleng — who was a key player under Riveiro — could be next on Al Ahly’s wishlist.
