Itumeleng Khune, former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper, has openly disagreed with the optimistic view expressed by Football Manager Bobby Motaung regarding the club’s progress under head coach Nasreddine Nabi. Motaung recently shared his belief that Chiefs are on the right track after their narrow 1-0 win over Stellenbosch FC on Friday, claiming the team is “cooking” and steadily improving.
In an interview with SuperSport, Motaung stated:
“It’s a long journey, we’re not there yet, but we are cooking it. Trust the process, it’s a journey, give it patience and time. Building a team takes time, it’s not an overnight success. We’re on the right path, and the league isn’t over yet.”
Khune Calls Out Chiefs’ Inconsistent Form
Despite respecting Motaung deeply, even considering him a father figure, Khune disagrees with this perspective. The seasoned goalkeeper pointed to the club’s lack of consistency as the major issue holding them back. He emphasized that Chiefs have been unable to maintain solid form throughout the season, with performances often fluctuating.

“‘Bob Steak’ is like a father to me, but I don’t agree with his statements,” Khune remarked.
Chiefs’ inconsistency is evident, with a record of seven wins, four draws, and six losses from 17 matches. This stop-start performance raises doubts about their ability to be competitive at the top level.
Khune’s Call for a Winning Formula
Khune stressed the importance of finding a consistent formula that works for the team. He urged the coaching staff and players to analyze their strengths and weaknesses, building on what has worked and addressing what hasn’t.
“There’s something they need to go back and check. What works for the team? What doesn’t? They need to keep improving on what’s been working. Consistency is what is needed. That’s all I can say about Kaizer Chiefs,” Khune concluded.
