Lucas Ribeiro Costa has brought a new level of excitement to the PSL. The 26-year-old has been a standout performer this season, with an impressive tally of seven goals and five assists in just twelve games. His sharp finishing and ability to set up key passes make him a constant threat to opposing teams.
Costa played a pivotal role in Mamelodi Sundowns’ dominant 2023/24 campaign, leading them to a commanding 23-point advantage over second-place teams.
As for his future, Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has suggested that Costaβs time in Pretoria might be limited, mentioning, “When I arrived here, I saw that Lucas was performing at a high level. I told him that thereβs always room for improvement and that this drive should be present every day.”
Cardoso added, βWe focus a lot on player development, especially their mindset. Lucas has the potential to go even further. We need to make the most of him while we can and hope to keep him for as long as possible because heβs a crucial player.”
Earlier in the season, Costa caught the eye of Championship side Burnley. However, with his talent and consistency, itβs likely only top European leagues will be able to attract him, especially if he continues his prolific form.
