The match, played in front of a packed crowd at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium, saw Lucas Ribeiro Costa score a brilliant first-half goal, which secured the victory for Sundowns. This was Costa’s 12th goal of the season, extending his lead in the race for the Golden Boot.
With this win, Mamelodi Sundowns are now 18 points ahead of second-placed Orlando Pirates, although Pirates have five games in hand. Orlando Pirates will play Marumo Gallants later on Saturday in Bloemfontein, with kick-off at 17:45.
As for Kaizer Chiefs, they remain in eighth place, 29 points behind Sundowns, despite having played one fewer match.
