Gabadinho Mhango, the former Orlando Pirates forward, has opened up about how a potential move to Kaizer Chiefs fell through during the 2023-24 summer transfer window. The Malawian international spent three seasons with the Sea Robbers, from 2019 to 2022, where he showcased his talent in the Premier Soccer League (PSL). After his contract with AmaZulu came to an end, Mhango found himself looking for a new club and was on the verge of joining the Glamour Boys on a free transfer.
According to Mhango, the transfer to Kaizer Chiefs seemed almost certain. All the negotiations had been settled, and everything appeared in place for him to make the move across town to join the Soweto giants. He had even gone through the necessary procedures, and the deal seemed like a formality. However, much to his disappointment, the move ultimately fell apart at the last moment, leaving Mhango with no choice but to look for other opportunities.
After the Chiefs deal fell through, the talented striker decided to join Moroka Swallows, another PSL side, marking the next chapter of his career. Reflecting on what happened, Mhango admitted feeling let down by the failed move to Chiefs, as he had been excited about the prospect of joining such a big club. The transfer breakdown left the Malawian forward frustrated, as he had been hoping to make a major impact with Amakhosi. Despite the setback, Mhango has since moved on and is focused on making the most of his time with Swallows.
Mhango’s time at Pirates and AmaZulu was filled with impressive performances, but his missed opportunity with Chiefs has been a bitter pill to swallow. Now, as he continues his career at Swallows, Mhango hopes to find success and prove his worth once again in the PSL, even though he still feels that the move to Chiefs could have been a great step forward in his footballing journey.
