Mamelodi Sundowns forward Lucas Ribeiro is once again in the spotlight — this time as a top contender for the prestigious PSL Player of the Season award.
The Brazilian attacker has enjoyed a standout campaign, racking up 16 goals and 9 assists in just 28 appearances. His impact hasn’t gone unnoticed, with football legends like Teko Modise and Doctor Khumalo publicly backing him for the award.
Now, former Orlando Pirates defender Lucas Thwala has joined the chorus of praise — and he didn’t hold back.
“That guy is very dangerous,” Thwala said in an interview with iDiski Times.
According to Thwala, Ribeiro’s deceptive style makes him a nightmare for defenders.
“He pretends to be slow, and that tricks defenders into thinking they can close him down easily. But he’s smart, his movement is deadly, and he’s got both skill and pace,” he explained.
Thwala went on to highlight Ribeiro’s timing and technical ability, especially around the penalty area.
“He’s patient with the ball, always looking for the right moment to strike. When he gets near the box, he can either shoot with precision or calmly place it in the corner. His technique is excellent.”
For Thwala, there’s no doubt about it: Lucas Ribeiro was the top performer in the DStv Premiership this season.
“Yes, he was the best player in the PSL this season. No question.”
