Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Matlou has been soaking up every second of the club’s recent Nedbank Cup victory — a win that meant more than just silverware.

After years of drought, the Amakhosi faithful had something to celebrate, and Matlou didn’t hold back, sharing his joy with fans on social media throughout the week.

“It was a special moment, and I had to show how much it meant to me,” Matlou told reporters. “As a player, these are the milestones you dream about. Lifting a trophy with a club as big as Chiefs — that’s something I’ll always carry with pride.”

For Matlou, who hails from Soweto, being part of the team that broke a decade-long trophy drought feels historic.

“People have been talking about ten years without a cup… well, now we’ve done it. I’m proud to be part of the group that brought that change. Our names are in the club’s history now.”

Despite the celebration, Matlou’s future at Naturena remains up in the air — his contract is set to expire on June 30, and there’s no confirmation yet on what’s next for the 26-year-old.
