Feisal Salum Rejects Contract Extension – Is a Move to Kaizer Chiefs on the Horizon?

Tanzanian midfielder Feisal Salum has reportedly turned down a new contract offer from Azam FC, sparking speculation that he could be headed for a big move at the end of the 2024/2025 Tanzanian Premier League season.

The 27-year-old playmaker has long been on the radar of South African clubs, with both Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns rumored to be interested in securing his services. Sundowns made a bid for Salum in July 2024, but Azam FC rejected the offer, stating it did not meet their R36 million asking price.

Salum Declines Azam’s New Offer
Despite Azam’s efforts to keep Salum by offering him a three-year contract extension, the midfielder has decided against signing the deal. According to Africafoot.com, Salum is enjoying his time at Azam FC but is eager to explore new opportunities once his contract expires.

β€œHe has made it clear that he will not extend his contract. He appreciates his time at Azam, but he wants to move on after the season,” a source revealed.

Kaizer Chiefs in the Running
Salum’s decision to reject the extension has sparked increased rumors about a potential move to Naturena. While nothing is confirmed yet, sources suggest that Kaizer Chiefs remains a serious contender to sign the talented midfielder.

β€œWhile it’s too early to confirm, a move to Kaizer Chiefs is certainly a possibility,” added the source.

Salum’s Rising Market Value
Salum joined Azam FC from Young Africans SC in July 2023 for €69,000 (R1.3 million). Since then, his market value has grown, now estimated at €150,000 (R2.8 million) by Transfermarkt. His contract rejection leaves Azam in a tough spot – they may either risk losing him for nothing or look to sell him before his current deal runs out.

As Chiefs and Sundowns continue to monitor the situation, Salum’s next move could have a significant impact on the transfer window. Will Kaizer Chiefs manage to land the midfielder, or will another club make a move?
