Mamelodi Sundowns have extended their lead at the top of the table to 18 points following a 1-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.
Sundowns 1-0 Chiefs
A brilliant strike from Lucas Ribeiro secured Sundowns’ third win over Chiefs this season. Sundowns’ coach, Miguel Cardoso, acknowledged that Chiefs made it a challenging game, but his team’s tactical approach ultimately paid off.
“We knew Chiefs would flood the midfield, which would open space on the wings. We took advantage of that with our wide players, and that’s how we got the goal,” Cardoso explained. “Their full-back pushed high up, and we knew if we could attract their center-back, we could play into the space.”
Cardoso also praised the tactical battle, saying it was a well-prepared game from coach Nasreddine Nabi and a tough match for both teams. Despite the challenge, Sundowns’ ability to read the game and exploit spaces helped them claim another win over Amakhosi.
Mngqithi’s Determination to Bounce Back
Former Sundowns coach, Manqoba Mngqithi, expressed confidence in his abilities despite his departure from the club. On the Up Back Through Podcast, Mngqithi spoke about the criticisms he faced and his resilient mindset.
“I don’t let what people say bother me,” Mngqithi stated. “When you’re doing something right, you become the target, but I’m thick-skinned. I don’t care about public opinions because I know my worth and abilities.”
He added that while societal pressure might make others doubt themselves, he has a strong belief in his principles. “I know I’ll get another job, and I’ll succeed wherever I go,” he said, emphasizing that his journey in coaching has been defined by winning trophies, and he intends to continue conquering.
