A former Kaizer Chiefs target is on the brink of finalizing a move to a Betway Premiership club after arriving in South Africa.

Thulani Serero, the 34-year-old former Bafana Bafana international, was reportedly a top target for Chiefs a year or two ago when he was a free agent. However, he chose not to return to South Africa at the time, instead opting to join a club in the United Arab Emirates. After leaving Al Jazira for Khor Fakkan, Serero has now decided to make a return home, but not to Chiefs. Instead, he is set to sign for Cape Town City in the near future.

Chiefs had once shown interest in Serero, but after a brief stint in the UAE, it seems their interest has cooled. Recently, Serero returned to South Africa and began training with City, which sparked speculation about a potential signing. According to iDiski Times, former Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral confirmed that the midfielder will indeed be joining the Cape Town side soon.

β€œHe’s going back to Emirates quickly, but yes, he is definitely a solution for us, just not against Pirates. He needs to sort out his family, bring them back, and then probably head to Emirates tomorrow. He’ll return on the weekend and should be ready for the next game against AmaZulu,” Ertugral explained.

Although Chiefs were once linked to Serero, they have since made a midfield addition with the signing of Thabo Cele, making it less likely that they will pursue the former Ajax Amsterdam star now.
